Me and Tessie, a friend's dog, in Colonel Light Gardens, Adelaide in 2014.

Hello, explorer!

My name is Elizabeth Tai, I was born in the glorious food paradise of Penang and live, breathe words in Kuala Lumpur. I'm also an ENFP, which means my main mission in life is to confuse and hug as many people as I can.

Life was not always so sunny.

In 2010, my life hit crisis point. Sick, confused and weighed down with debt, I realised I couldn't go on living the way I did. So, I lost a bunch of weight, accidentally embraced minimalism and paid off my debts. Then, in 2012, I quit my job and moved to Australia to discover what made me tick.

I returned to Kuala Lumpur in 2015 with a greater clarity about myself: Namely, how I really want to live my life.

I thought I had to move continents to have a more fulfilled life. In the end, I discovered that achieving contentment was simpler than I thought.

These are the things that make me happy:

  • Being a minimalist.
  • Living a zero waste lifestyle.
  • Being debt free.
  • Books, books, books. Reading them. Writing them. Meeting people who read and write them.
  • Practising simple spirituality without religiosity
  • The company of good people.

I write a lot about these things in the blog because I want you to discover them too. :)

I Booktube on Youtube. You can also follow me on Twitter or Instagram.

PS: I've been a journalist for the Malaysian newspaper, The Star, since 2000, so my articles on social issues, the environment, entertainment and literature are also on this website.

I post on Fridays. You can have my essays sent to your e-mail inbox by filling the form below.
